Chaplains are clergy members who volunteer to serve within the military, bringing unique skills and a critical perspective to the battlefield. While often underutilized, chaplains offer powerful support that strengthens the commander’s effectiveness and a unit’s overall fitness.

Chaplains are more than spiritual leaders; they are trusted advisors and a vital resource for Marines and their families.

They help Marines and families strengthen their Total Fitness by supporting them in several key ways.

What Chaplains Offer:

Religious Services: Chaplains lead services, ceremonies, and sacraments for their own faith groups and facilitate religious practices for all.

Pastoral Care: They offer confidential counseling and emotional support during personal, family, or professional challenges.

Moral and Ethical Guidance: Chaplains serve as trusted advisors on spiritual and ethical issues, helping to maintain moral and ethical standards.

Command Advisement: Chaplains advise leadership on spiritual readiness, morale, and ethical decision-making.

Community Building: Through events, counseling, and outreach, chaplains foster connection, cohesion, and resilience among Marines and their families.

Your chaplain is here to support your spiritual, emotional, and moral well-being—and all conversations with a chaplain are 100% confidential.

For more information on chaplain confidentiality, see SECNAVINST 1730.11.
