Staffed Fitness Center
Youth Accessibility Policy
Youth Aged 12 and Older
Youth in this category shall receive program and equipment orientation from authorized MCCS personnel with the approval of a parent or legal guardian prior to being allowed access to the fitness center. Upon completion of the orientation, youth will be issued a Youth Fitness Center Authorization Card that must be in their possession while inside the fitness center.
Upon completion of the program and equipment orientation, youth in this category are authorized use of all areas of a staffed fitness center and equipment, except for saunas and steam rooms, and are not required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Youth Aged 11 and Younger
Due to the inherent risks and dangers of unsupervised use of fitness centers, no one 11 years of age and younger shall be allowed in the fitness center unless they are under direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
All youth in this category are not permitted in any weight or strength training rooms, cardiovascular rooms, saunas, or steam rooms. All other areas of the fitness center (e.g., sports courts) are authorized under direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
Youth vary in their emotional and physical level of maturity. Youth typically need more gradual, carefully organized training programs than adults. Extreme caution shall be practiced while supervising youth in this age group.
Definition of Direct Supervision
It is the sole responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to supervise and care for their child.
The parent or legal guardian cannot leave the child unattended anywhere in the fitness center.
The parent or legal guardian cannot participate in any activity that does not directly involve the child.
