Families Overcoming Under Stress (FOCUS) offers resiliency training designed to strengthen couples and families for the challenges of military life. Grounded in three well-established interventions, the program builds on current strengths and teaches practical skills for managing stress, injury, and other life transitions.

FOCUS is a short-term intervention delivered in six to eight sessions. Some sessions are for parents, some for children, and others for the entire family. Families and couples practice perspective and develop a shared understanding of their experiences, helping them grow closer. FOCUS Family Resilience Training allows families to build their own story about their life experiences. This helps families to:

  • Identify, manage, and discuss emotions

  • Clarify misunderstandings and respect individual points of view

  • Build on family strengths

  • Feel closer and more supported

  • Use family-level problem solving and goal setting to empower the entire family

Although FOCUS is structured to ensure each family learns the program’s core skills, it can be customized to meet the unique needs of each family. Training is confidential, free, and available during family-friendly hours.

Schedule an appointment at a FOCUS location near you to learn practical strategies, gain helpful tips, and strengthen your family for a smoother transition and greater resilience.
